Merge may be the most popular US friendly site now, but this could change in the near future. Lock Poker, which is currently part of Merge, announced early this month that they are planning on buying the Cake Poker Network. This means that they will be leaving Merge and starting a new network with Cake. The new network will be called Revolution Gaming and will be owned by Lock Poker management.

Revolution Gaming is to go live on June 1st, which means that May 1st is the last day Lock Poker will be part of the Merge network. Players won’t find much disruption as they will just need to experience a software upgrade on May 31st.

Merge Poker will likely experience a significant traffic downgrade as Lock Poker currently accounts for 40% of their player base. At the same time, the Cake Poker download will experience a significant traffic upgrade due to this move.

Cake Poker used to be one of the biggest American poker sites, but Black Friday changed everything. Because they had such bad cashier problems, people left the site in favor of Lock Poker and the Carbon Poker download. Hopefully the move to the new network will change things, however. Since the new network is launched on June 1st, we will probably hear more details on the move soon.

As of late April 2012, the U.S. Department of Justice and Groupe Bernard Tapie broke off their seven month negotiation process after hitting several snags. The DOJ had issues with how players living outside of America would be paid back. To start, they would have to play an unknown amount on the site to have access to account balances over $100. They would also have been subjected to inactivity penalties.

The poker world was floored when they found out about another possible solution, however. The PokerStars download is now in talks with the DOJ to buy FTP. The deal gives PokerStars the chance to acquire FTP and clear any ill will they have with American government at the same time.

While this seems like quite the outlandish idea, the rumor picked up quite a bit of steam since its arrival. The news appeared on legitimate websites such as the Wall Street Journal’s website. PokerStars released a vague announcement on their corporate website soon after, stating that they are unable to talk about any ongoing talks with the DOJ. Many industry insiders have come out of the woodwork to convey that they, too, have heard of PokerStars intentions to purchase FTP. The combination of all the factors would lend itself to the idea that all of this is far from fiction.

Many details remain a mystery for now. It is yet unknown how this will affect ongoing charges against PokerStars owner and founder Isai Scheinberg. It is also unknown whether PokerStars would run FTP as a separate entity if the deal were to go through or if they’d fold the beleaguered poker site. What is known is that the next few months will be a very interesting time and that new hope has been given to players who have money stuck on FTP.

6356095 Canada Inc., also known as Excapsa Software Inc., has just had a lawsuit filed against them in the US District Court in California. The plaintiffs are eight poker players that are accusing the company of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, otherwise known as the RICO Act.

6356095 Canada Inc. has also been accused of defrauding players out of $20 million after a scandal that saw high stakes cash players swindled by players that could see their cards. The site has admitted to these problems and has repaid the stolen money to the affected players, but the plaintiffs are claiming that they lost way more money than was repaid.

The eight plaintiffs are attempting to get $1.73 million out of 6356095 Canada Inc., as well as extra compensation for potential punitive damage. Included among the plaintiffs are well known poker pros Dustin Woolf, Brad Booth, and Thomas Koral. Does the fact that they took the time to file this lawsuit mean that these players have not had much success on the best Euro poker sites since Black Friday?

While it is unknown how it will affect he lawsuit, currently 6356095 Canada Inc. is undergoing liquidation proceedings in Canada.

An outsider might argue against the necessity for such a lawsuit at this moment in time. Hall hoped to win 7-figures for the second year in a row, but it wasn’t to be as he got coolered with 99 against Blom’s pocket aces. He had to settle for $470,400 and 3rd place. This left Shak as a chip underdog against Blom heads-up. Shak couldn’t mount a comeback, so he busted in 2nd place for a nice consolation prize of $846,700.

Congratulations to Blom for winning the Super High Roller for $1.25 million! This was especially sweet for him as it was his first ever major live tournament victory.
